The Artist Behind the Paintings

A French-born artist whose practice has moved through painting, sculpture, motherhood, museum work, writing, and a lifelong fascination with the human experience.

From Paris to the Studio

Anne-Marie Delaunay-Danizio was born in Paris in 1955 and began painting at seventeen.

Her relationship with art has evolved through different stages of her life. After moving to the United States in 1986, she continued painting before turning toward sculpture and papier-mâché masks during the 1990s. Her work at the time explored mythology, femininity, motherhood, and patriarchal ideas through brightly colored figures and imagined beings.

Motherhood, economic dependency and personal struggles eventually interrupted her artistic career.

Years later, she returned fully to painting. That return culminated in an MFA in Visual Art from the Institute of Art and Design at New England College in 2020.

Her journey back to painting is an important part of the work itself: art became a way of reclaiming creativity, curiosity, and a sense of being alive.

Art as a Way of Being Alive

For Anne-Marie, making art is not simply about producing an image.

It is a way of processing experience, observing the world, and making sense of what it means to inhabit a body and move through time.

Her work is informed but not defined by trauma. It is equally driven by curiosity, humor, color, movement, sensuality, and a profound lust for life.

She describes her practice as a dance between trauma and celebration.
